Medical Records
All of our offices are compliant with the Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). This is a federal ruling
for use and disclosure of protected health information intended
to protect the privacy of your medical records. A copy of our privacy
practice is available at our office. As per HIPAA regulations,
if you would like your medical records to become available to any
person other than yourself, you must authorize this in writing.
Any patient who wishes additional copies of his (or her) medical
report should call our office and provide a doctor’s fax
number or address.
Patients may pick up their original mammograms and breast sonogram
films from our office after giving 24-48 hours notice. If the films
are not picked up personally by the patient, then a letter of authorization
will be required. If you would like your films to be mailed, you
must send a letter stating which years are needed and where the
films are to be sent. A fee to cover postage is required. Please
contact Great Neck Radiologists to make these arrangements.
CT scans and MRIs are archived digitally, therefore, there are
no original films. A full set of films can be made available for
a nominal fee. Please call our office and we will provide you with
the necessary information.
All records are kept, by law, for seven (7) years. Pediatric and
legal cases are not discarded.
Every effort will be made to provide you with the requested records
as soon as possible.
